This was our first garden on the tour and unknown to any of us. We were warmly welcomed by the owners and enjoyed excellent coffee (made with spring water) and cake, before setting off to explore.

We were fortunate in seeing the garden in the morning before its first opening under the National Gardens Scheme and so it was looking immaculate. It covers 7 acres and has much recent planting. There is a formal parterre with lily pond, a fern garden and a spring garden. The borders are colour co-ordinated.

We saw our first handkerchief tree (Davidia involucrata) and viewed the lake across sweeping lawns. The most striking area was the 1 acre walled garden where vegetables and flowers were growing in impressive order. The alpine house was also well stocked.

The garden is well worth a visit and made a good start to our tour.
