Her particular speciality is garden pests. She trained at Durham University as a botanist and went on to get an MSc in crop protection at Reading University. She is now one of Britain’s leading plant pathologists.A regular panellist on Gardeners’ Question Time since 1994, she has written a number of award winning books and contributes to Gardeners’ World Magazine.
