Burrow Farm and Little Ash Bungalow.
We are pleased to be able to offer our first day trip by coach since before the start of Covid to visit 2 award winning gardens in Devon, both regional winners in the NGS Public’s Favourite Garden competition.
The cost of this visit is £42.50 pp to include coach travel, driver’s tip, entry to 2 gardens with tea/coffee and cake at Little Ash.
The first garden, by popular request is Burrow Farm, near Axminster, East Devon, almost 13 acres of beautifully landscaped garden with superb views of the surrounding countryside (featured on Gardener’s World on Fri 17th Feb). There is a rill garden, a woodland garden, magnolias, flowering shrub, specimen trees and a wildflower meadow. There are places to picnic if you wish to bring your own refreshments but there is also a tearoom where you can buy coffee and where there will be an opportunity to choose and order lunch (refreshments not included at this garden). Burrow Farm has a nursery and a garden shop selling plants, country and garden gifts including locally made ironwork.
In the afternoon we will visit Little Ash Bungalow near Honiton which featured in the February 2023 edition of the English Garden magazine, a 7 page article including photos. Helen Brown has created this 1.5-acre garden over 25 years from what was grass around the bungalow and a paddock, part of which was a caravan park, into an inspirational garden with year-round interest. There are borders, island beds, rockeries, an alpine garden, terraces, a stream and a pond. Possibly Helen’s favourite part of the garden is a shady damp area, Alder Grove, which comes into its own in May with arisaema, podophyllum, primula, roscoea & trillium. Tea/coffee and cake will be provided here (cost included).
We recommend sturdy footwear
