Garden Visits

The garden visits programme is one of the highlights of the club.

The Outings Group generally organises several day trips and two extended trips a year. Our aim is to discover and explore a variety of gardens of special interest, ranging from small, privately owned cottage gardens to larger, more formal ones.  Some of these are often closed to the general public. The extended trips are usually 3-5 days long & focus on a specific area of the UK or Europe.

Over recent years we’ve lead trips to Norfolk, Essex, Sussex and Cheshire plus Wales.  We’ve also ventured to 2 different areas of Brittany and to Normandy.  We also do lots of day trips nearer home, often chosen for their interest at certain seasons.

The Outings Group presently consists of 7 members, between us we arrange almost all of the trips, day, overnight and foreign stays.   We usually make our plans a year in advance.   The organisers normally visit the selected gardens personally the season prior to the planned trip. Then we fix the budget, catering and transport arrangements, however we find the whole process enjoyable, satisfying and generally good fun

We always welcome suggestions of gardens to visit and we would particularly like some new recruits to join us who would be given a very warm welcome, training and support.

If you are interested please contact any of us. Members of the Fagus Organising Group are:

Sue Batchelor, Jen Lankester, Chris Lewis, Felicity Pine, Irene Randow, Jen Thyer and Sara Willmott,

Essential Trip Information

For trips, if you have not received a slip in lieu of a ticket two weeks before the trip, please contact the organisers to confirm you are on the trip. We have had one or two trips where people have turned up who have not been on the list.

Please make sure that for overnight trips, you enclose at least an A5 stamped addressed envelope for all the information that needs to be sent to you.

Cancellation Policy

There has been some confusion on the cancellation procedures of trips that members have already booked. Please note it will be assumed, that unless previous notification is given to a trip organiser, that you will be ready to board the coach at the given time. Prior notification will enable your place to be offered to someone on the waiting list and if this is taken up then it is more than likely you will receive your money back. If there are no people on the waiting list then any reimbursement will be assessed at the end of the trip when all costs have been covered.

If you are not present to board the coach at the given time, due to time constraints, we will leave without you and no refund will be made. If for some unforeseen circumstance you are unable to make the trip at the last moment please endeavour to contact the organiser/s on their mobile phone so they are not waiting for you to turn up so that the trip can leave on time and not inconvenience members who are ready to go.
