This Lecture will be by Zoom
In her talk, ‘New Tricks for Old Gardeners’, Katherine will give us a presentation of styles of gardens and plants suitable for low maintenance and retirement gardening, followed by a demonstration of tools and techniques.
Katherine was brought up in the Lake District and studied Product Design at the Glasgow School of Art.
The ninety foot upward sloping garden of the bungalow in Somerset, Katherine and her husband moved into in 1991, commanded a south-facing view over the valley to Herne Hill, but had not been gardened on or planted in seventeen years. Terracing the garden took four years of hard hand digging. It was opened for the National Garden Scheme in 1996.
Since winning the BBC Gardener of the Year 1999 competition, she has combined her design training with twenty years of gardening experience to start designing gardens professionally and has taught planting design at Cannington as a guest lecturer.
Katherine now lives in Donyatt, where she has developed the garden. She continues to design gardens and gives many garden club talks. In 2008 she won BBC Gardener of the Decade, and says “It’s a pity it wasn’t such a big deal as The Great British Bake Off!”
